The site of a neolithic camp dated to around 2700 BC, Whitehawk  was mostly farmland until a government clearance initiative  in the 1920s led to a large-scale estate-building project. The area was redeveloped in the 70s, and now houses a library, community centre, and City College’s East Campus.

A gang from Whitehawk running a drugs trade on a housing estate have been jailed as the result of a successful undercover police operation. Two members of the gang were Brighton residents.
